2007 - 2008 Master Ski Program

The Master ski Program is Closed for this season. Thanks for your support!

Skiers age 18 years and older have the opportunity in this class to enjoy Nordic skiing and improve their skills by skiing with other adults under the direction of a qualified coach.  A small class will ensure plenty of one-on-one coaching.  The focus is on mechanics, balance, and strength, for both classic and skate technique, and learning to adjust each technique to fit the terrain.  This is not a racing program:  the point of the class is for every participant to increase his or her enjoyment of recreational skiing by learning to ski better.

Who is Eligible?  Any skier at least 18 years old who can ski several kilometers comfortably and who wants to have fun learning to ski better.

Season:  December 10th to March 5th (no class December 24th-31st)

Fee:  $110 for members, $130 for non members.

Practice Schedule:  Monday, Wednesday, 4-5 pm

Location:  Happy Jack ski trails.  Skiers will meet for practice at the warming hut at the Tie City trailhead, off of the Happy Jack Road (Wyoming Highway 210) 12 miles east of Laramie.

Class Format: Participants can choose to ski both skate and classic, or one or the other. The number of participants who wish to learn both techniques versus those who only want to focus on either skate or classic will determine the focus of the sessions. For example, if the majority of the people only want to learn skate, most of the practices will focus on skate technique. However, accommodations will be made to the best of the coaches ability for those who may only wish to focus on
classic technique. The bottom line is that the coach will attempt to provide as much individualized instruction for each person regardless of which ski technique(s) they wish to focus on.

Equipment:  Equipment: Skis, boots, and poles suitable for either classic or skate techniques are required. Some participants may wish to ski only one technique, which is fine. Every participant must provide his or her own
equipment, which can be rented from Cross Country Connection (2nd & Ivinson, 721-2851), Fine Edge Ski & Cycle (1660 N. 4th St., 745-4499), or Westgate Ski & Sports (1979 Snowy Range Rd., 742-6742). Warm clothing is essential."

Class Size:  Minimum of 7 skiers, maximum of 11.
