News: January 2008 First, we would like to extend another hardy Thank You to everyone who has renewed their membership, became a new member of MBNA, or donated in any way to the organization this year. News: Member Discount All current MBNA members will be receiving a membership card in the mail in the coming week. On the back of this card list the names of several vendors and the discount that MBNA members can receive at the respective merchant when this card is presented to them before a purchase is made. Please note, this card must be presented before the sale is rung up. The participating merchants are not required to ask for the discount card. It is up to the member to present the card in order to receive the discount. The participating merchants and their respective discounts are:
The discounts are good through October 31, 2008, same date that yearly memberships expire. Dogs Please clean up after your dog. The mess they leave behind is unsightly, slows skis down, unpleasant to deal with and is of course unsanitary. The privilege of being able to ski with your dog is one that not many cross country ski areas provide. It is a privilege that the Forest Service can take away. Trails Grant Looking ahead to next season, we are pleased to report that MBNA should continue to be able to provide first-class grooming of the Happy Jack trail system, thanks to recent funding of a grant application to the Wyoming Recreational Trails Program. This grant will provide salary and fuel for grooming for the 2008/09 season. It is matched with MBNA funds for grooming equipment repair, supplies, and insurance. The State Trails program has been a major source of funding for MBNA grooming for the last several years. It reflects the state's recognition of the quality of the MBNA program and the large role we play in winter recreation in southeast Wyoming. Trail Use The trails have been getting a lot of use since the December 8th. Many days are seeing more than 200 users. A plot of the data that has been accumulated this year is shown on the following link on the MBNA website. http://www.medbownordic.org/TrailUseData/1_05_08.pdf Nordic Person of the Year award MBNA, in conjunction with Cross Country Connection would like to recognize those who show excellence in the promotion of cross country skiing in southeast Wyoming. This year’s winner is Van Jacobson. Van has worked as Treasurer for MBNA for many years. He has done much of the behind the scenes work to keep the organization not only running but growing as well. We’d like to congratulate Van on his nomination. Nominations for next year’s award will be accepted at the MBNA annual meeting in October, 2008.
